Newcomer Zheng Liu, the great Gordon Liu and rapper Pit Bull are out for Blood Money!

So we have newcomer Zheng Liu , touted to be the next Bruce Lee, the rapper Pit Bull and the legendary Gordon Liu (No relation, I think) in an American film releasing to DVD on August 28th, 2012. Zheng Liu is a shaolin kung-fu practitioner, and it’ll be interesting to see how that style of fighting will fit in the modern world versus other styles like MMA and more. This looks like an action fest that may be well worth watching. We’ll see how Zheng Liu fares, and I have high hopes for him. It’s great to see new martial arts talents coming out in films like Jason Yee (The Girl from the Naked Eye) , and now we can add Zheng Liu to the list. As for Gordon Liu, as many of you may know he’s recovering from a stroke so this was filmed well before that. I don’t know how much film work Master Liu did before his injury, and I’ll take as much Gordon Liu as I can get, but I never thought I would mention Gordon Liu and Pit Bull in the same sentence…

The synopsis of the film is this: “When a powerful Shaolin warrior (Zheng Liu) turns to crime after his parents are killed and sister kidnapped, the drug cartels of America, Australia and Hong Kong are about to feel the sting of the world’s deadliest hitman.”

Of course it won’t be as simple as that! Check out the trailer below!

The film will be released on Blu ray and DVD August 28th!

Hmmm. That trailer makes it a tough call. Half the time I thought it looked very promising, and then I started to get CGI and wire-fu overload. I’m a little suspicious that a lot of the main guy’s aerial kicks were wire supported. Hardly the “Next Bruce Lee”!!! In fact, making such a claim also make me leery: people who do that tend not to understand MA films very well, and make bad ones. This could just be a low-budget Ninja Assassin. They definitely overdid it with the CGI one way or the other.

Watching that trailer provides me with some great ideas for innovative project implementation. I am absolutely becoming more and more intrigued with the martial arts genre. When you post, I either go to Netflix to see the film or to f.y.e. Backstage Pass and purchase the film to study it. We have a contract for housing/ jobs/after school mentoring project in Jacksonville, Florida. Combining film-making with the study of martial arts for inner-city and rural children and youth with this type of film that you reviewed here would be a marvelous case study; and, subject matter for a documentary film. I am getting so many great ideas from reading your reviews. Thank you.
